THE ROSES

FOURTH ROSE:

JESUS, KING OF LOVE, I PUT MY TRUST IN YOUR LOVING MERCY

A BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY

During His public life and upon His returns from His apostolic travels, Jesus loved to visit His friend's place, the home of Martha, Mary and Lazarus.

They lived in the small village of Bethany located six kilometres far from Jerusalem.

Things were not easy for this family at the beginning. They had the same problems as many families today.

Martha was a "busy body",

Mary Magdalene was a prostitute,

Lazarus had passed away.

But when Jesus, King of Love, entered into
 this family, everything changed.

Martha turned to the Lord and left him invade her

heart. Mary Magdalene tuned herself to the word

of God, and Lazarus, risen from the dead.

 Mary Magdalene was already

announcing Jesus' resurrection.

LOVE STORY

A Provençal tradition tells us that Lazarus became Marseille's first Bishop, Martha evangelized Tarascon and Mary Magdalene became a contemplative of the Saint Baume.

TODAY, WE SPEAK OF SAINT MARTHA, SAINT MARY

MAGDALENE, OF SAINT  SAINT LAZARUS OF BETHANY'S

 HOLY FAMILY.

MAY BE THIS LOVE STORY WILL BE MINE

YES, Maybe similar things could happen to us if we try to welcome Jesus, King of Love, in our heart and in our family.

O JESUS, KING OF LOVE,

COME AND MAKE

OUR HOME AN OTHER BETHANY

SO WE CAN LOVE YOU

LIKE MARTHE, MARY MAGDALENE AND LAZARUS.

LET US LISTEN FATHER MATEO CRALEY

Let us listen to Father Mateo Crawley talk to us in his colourful language about Bethany's spirituality. He tells us:" For as little as we can think with our heart, this is the way the things must have occurred.

"The first time Jesus asked for hospitality at Bethany, only Lazarus and Martha accepted –as Mary Magdalene had left home – they accepted reluctantly, with a mixture of timidity, curiosity and honour at the same time. He was famous, performing miracles that people heard about. Who could he be? A rabbi? They were curious but not more. They kept their distance and, without doubt, they were happy to listen to Him and serving Him. Nevertheless something attractive must have emanated from the Saviour's person because, when He left, Lazarus and Martha timidly dared ask him: “ Master, come back”. And Jesus came back.

This time, a new feeling arouse in their heart. They were prepared to welcome Him. They were looking forward to this arrival, they even waited for Him at the door step and when He was there they came closer to Him... conversation became more personal, more informal, more joyful….the Master was so good, so simple and unaffected.

When He left, He had won their hearts, they implored Him: "Oh! Master, please come back and make our home your pied-à-terre."

And Jesus promised… He will be their friend.

The third reception of Jesus at Bethany was to be certainly different from the other two. Please realize, it is the enthronement one.

Their souls were rejoicing, they were preparing for a great celebration, flowers everywhere, Lazarus and Martha waited impatiently. Oh! the Master ever took  long to arrive !

Soon, they could not wait any longer and went out to meet Him. After they introduced Him to the others and had given Him the best place, they gathered around Him, closer and closer. As the conversation touched their hearts and were communicating so much so that as Lazarus realised that the Master was so gentle, so good, so compassionate, so mighty…he threw himself at his knees and placing his joined hands on Jesus' knees, choking with emotion…entrusted him with the painful family secret.

"Master, there are two of us now, but we were three. Mary, our sister who is now called Magdalene is not with us anymore… she is the shame of our family. Oh! Master! make it so she comes back".

And Jesus cried with Lazarus and when He left His friends that night, He put in their soul these words of hope. "I promise you, Magdalene will come back".

We know what followed. Mary the sinner, at Jesus' feet at Simon's home and her wonderful conversion.

The fourth time Jesus came back to Bethany, they were three again.

She was there, Mary Magdalene, the Master's great reawaken and from then on, the Bible is showing her to us never leaving the feet of her Saviour. Around Jesus, close, very close, the center of their life, the three are permanently reassembled, Bethany reunited for eternity.

Jesus knew very well, He who knows everything, the family's sorrow but waited until they confided their sorrow to Him, He waited, to perform his great miracle, that he had been invited in their home and that he had found their confident love and friendship.

Maybe Jesus is asking of us a similar approach before we solemnly enthrone Him as the KING OF LOVE in our home.

Jesus' welcoming attitude has completely transformed a split family, Bethany's, surely He could also transform our own!!!

WE LISTEN THIS HYMN AND DURING THIS TIME JESUS ENTERS IN OUR HEART, IN OUR HOME
